Why golf the country to fundraise for underprivileged kids?

Every year millions of children throughout the world are not able to realize their full potential because they lack access to quality educational resources. The “From Tee to Shining Tee” journey raised donations and awareness that directly and positively impacted the lives of many young, motivated people. Along with the metaphorical significance of striving to get on the smooth putting surface of life, the “From Tee to Shining Tee” event was highly unique and resulted in important media attention, leading to heightened awareness and increased funds for Providence Cristo Rey High School.

What was the fundraising goal?

Get On The Green’s fundraising goal was $100,000, equating to 12 student tuitions. The Get On The Green team ended up raised $35,000 for Providence Cristo Rey!

How was the journey even possible?

The journey was not theoretical. It was tested and proven realistic. Luke Bielawski conducted a Feasibility Study carried out over long distances and through wooded areas, meadows, fields, tilled acreage, swampy areas, and deserts. The study was tested during periods of tremendous heat, constant rain, and high winds. Further, it was tested by hitting along small country gravel and paved roads, over bridges, railroad tracks, rivers, and highways. Despite all of these challenges, all test conditions were proven to be successful.

Didn’t you lose your golf ball?

It doesn’t matter if you’re Spalding from Caddyshack or Rory McIlroy on the PGA Tour, we all lose golf balls when playing golf. This event was no exception. Over the course of the entire journey, Luke lost 5,540 golf balls!

How long did it take you?

The entire journey took 96 full days of golf to complete.

How were the trip’s costs covered?

A majority of the trip’s costs were offset by the generous in-kind donations we have received from sponsors. Other costs were funded by Luke himself.

How many strokes did it take to complete?

Luke followed the USGA rules on counting strokes and “unplayables” in order to obtain an accurate “slope rating” for the country. The projected score for the “course” was roughly 48,000 strokes. The final score was 52,345 including the penalty strokes for the lost golf balls. The official course par is 52,346 which means Luke birdied the course!

Where did you sleep?

Luke was accompanied by a dedicated group of team members to help spot the golf ball, ensure event safety, procure food, and manage technology and equipment, among other things. Luke and the team slept in a travel trailer that was be pulled by a heavy duty truck, both of which were donated by generous supporting organizations.
